A businessman and a principal have been hospitalised after being injured in two separate attacks that had taken place in Puttalam today (Sept 19).
The Principal, Lionel Silva aged 53 had been attacked at his residence using swords by two unidentified persons who had broken into his house. Silva had been living alone in the area since his family is residing in Colombo.
It is believed that the victim had engaged in a business of issuing loans on an interest basis apart from his profession. He had been admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital and is expected to undergo a surgery, hospital director Dr. Sumith Attanayake said.
Meanwhile, a trader had been injured after a group of persons in a van had snatched his four-pound worth gold chain before attacking him using sharp weapons.
The victim, identified as George Micheal Cooray aged 62, had been admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital before being transferred to the Colombo General Hospital due to his critical condition.
Police are conducting further investigations into these incidents.
