Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will move a motion in Parliament tomorrow to limit the number of Cabinet Ministers in the national government to 48 and the number of those not in the Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers to 45. This is in keeping with the provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution which states that in the case of a National unity Government being set up by the party that wins the largest number of MPs in Parliament along with another party, Parliament will determine the number of Cabinet and non-Cabinet ministers.

Former President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake was today remanded until February 11 by the Fort Magistrate in relation to the case where former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is alleged to have misused Rs. 16.6 million in state funds during a visit to the UK to attend his wife’s graduation ceremony at the University of Wolverhampton.
