Cabinet approval has has been granted to increase the Mahapola scholarship for students of the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE) by Rs 1000.
This was following a proposal put forward by Higher Education Minister Rauff Hakeem proposing that the existing scholarship of Rs 1500 be increased to Rs 2500.
SLIATE was established to provide higher national diploma education in the field of technology.
At present, some 20,000 students are being tutored at 19 SLIATE centres which have been set-up across the country.
