The Constitutional Council will probe into the actions taken by IGP Pujith Jayasundara over the Easter Sunday terror attacks in the near future, government sources told Times Online.
Sources said that the inquiry would be initiated after the committee appointed by the President to investigate into the attacks has submitted its report.
Mr. Jayasundara was nominated by the Constitutional Council to be appointed as the Inspector General of Police by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President, in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks had called on the Defence Secretary and the IGP to resign following which the latter had refused to step down.
Accordingly, IGP Jayasundara had been sent on compulsory leave as Senior DIG Chandana Wickramaratne was appointed as the Acting IGP this morning.
