CID arrests four suspects with 100 kg of explosives

Four individuals have been arrested by the CID with 100 kilograms of explosives in Wanathawilluwa earlier today (Jan 17).

A stock of wires, 100 detonators, and 20 litres of Nitrate Acid which is banned in Sri Lanka, were among the several items confiscated by the CID.

The suspects were arrested yesterday (Jan 16) when the CID was on the hunt to apprehend the suspects involved behind the vandalisation of Buddhist statues in the recent weeks.

CID officials who had learnt that their intended suspect was not in the area were about to make a return when they had felt something suspicious about a particular area in close proximity to their location.

They had then discovered an explosive by the name of “Sifo” following which they traced down the suspects using fingerprints and several other clues.

The reason behind the possession of such explosives by the suspects has not been revealed as of yet.

CID officials had made arrangements to transport the stock of explosives to Colombo.

It is reported that the suspects were arrested in a coconut estate spanning 60 acres that was not frequently used by the public.
