CID to seek Interpol assistance to investigate links between former DIG Nalaka De Silva, singer Amal Perera and Madush

News

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (Feb 13) informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate that it was investigating reported  links between former DIG Nalaka Silva, singer Amal Perera and 'Makandure Madush.'

The CID revealed this today when the case regarding the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, was taken up for hearing.

The CID informed court that since Amal Perera and Makandure Madush are currently detained by Dubai Police, they will seek Interpol assistance to question the suspects on their connections with the former DIG.

The CID told court that singer Amal Perera had met the former DIG at the latter's office on July 21, 2016.

The CID informed court that on this occasion, the Police Constable who was on duty at the office had inquired from Amal Perera as to why he had come to meet the DIG. Former DIG Silva had become so angered by the question that he held a disciplinary inquiry against the Constable on the spot and subjected him to three different punishments, including transferring him to a training course at the Mt.Lavinia Police, the CID told court.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered that the former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Nalaka Silva and an Indian national - M. Thomas, who are currently in remand  be further remanded till February 27.

The Magistrate further ordered the CID to submit a report at the next court date on the progress of the investigation regarding the Indian national M. Thomas who is currently in remand over the VIP assassination attempt.
