The Civil Aviation Authority will take over 25 acres of land belonging to the Air Force in Ratmalana to develop Ratmalana airport, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament today.
He said the Authority would pay Rs 7250 million to the Air Force for the land.
He said the modernization of the Ratmalana Airport would strengthen the air transport both domestic and international.
The Minister revealed the plans for the airport during the second reading debate on the Civil Aviation (Amendment) bill.
The Bill is being amended to make touting for passengers within the premises of the aerodrome an offence and to prescribe for the procedure in case such an offence is committed.
