As predicted by certain analysts earlier in the day, Colombo retailers sold midcap stocks at close on Tuesday half-heartedly amidst three Members of Parliament crossing over to the government.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) MPs Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, Indika Bandaranayake and Lakshman Senaviratne have crossed over to the Government side on the floor of the House today. Yesterday’s trend of profit taking was visible throughout today, brokers noted.
On October 26, President Maithripala Sirisena ousted the then Prime Minister and United National Party Leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe and installed former rival and ex-strongman Mahinda Rajapaksa in his place, a move which forced the country into a constitutional stalemate. On Sunday, Wickremesinghe was reappointed Prime Minister. Investors are awaiting new ministerial appointments and Cabinet formation.
The All Share Index was up by marginally by 0.33 per cent to close at 6,047.48 points with S&P down by 0.45 per cent to close at 3,127.89 points on a Rs. 979 million turnover. (DEC)
