A special combined narcotic exercise will be launched next week by three security units, Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) DIG Sajeewa Medawatte said.
The operation will be carried out until the end of this year by the Police, Special Task Force (STF), and the Navy, DIG Medawatte explained.
He noted that the STF is expected to assist in narcotic raids on land while the Navy is expected to assist in maritime operations.
According to Mr. Medawatte, vessels carrying narcotics were found to have been entering Sri Lankan waters from Iran, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Thailand in the recent past.
