The Chief Magistrate's Court today (May 13) informed that the order concerning the submission of preliminary objections in five cases filed against parliamentarian Johnston Fernando and two others will be issued on June 07.
This was announced when the cases against the parliamentarian and two others for utilising the services of 153 Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) employees for political activities, were taken up for hearing today.
The Bribery Commission had filed cases against former Minister Johnston Fernando, former CWE Chairman Iraj Fernando, and former CWE Director (Operations) Mohamed Zakeer, for committing the said offence.
According to the Bribery Commission, the offence committed by the defendants from 2010 - 2014 were punishable, since it had been in violation of Section 70 of the Bribery Act.
