The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) has requested that a report investigating political appointments in the education sector be made available to the public.
Issuing a press release, the Chairman of CTU, Joseph Stalin charged that moves are afoot to provide political appointments in the education sector after the UNP government came into power.
Mr. Stalin added that President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed a committee to investigate into political appointments when this issue had arisen during the coalition government.
According to the CTU's press release, the report containing the findings of this committee headed by the former Secretary of the Education Ministry, Gotabhaya Jayaratne, is reported to have been submitted on December 21 to the President.
However, the CTU claimed that this report should be revealed immediately to the public in a bid to prevent such political appointments.
The release went on to add that the trade unionists in the education sector would resort to trade union action if their demand is not achieved.
