A cyclonic storm "Gaja" wreaked havoc and destruction in the North Province over the past 24 hours leaving houses damaged and trees uprooted.
Our area correspondent noted that the cyclone left two houses and three shops damaged while uprooting thousands of banana trees.
Accordingly, all schools in the Northern Province will remain closed today (Nov 16) owing to the cyclone.
Cyclone 'Gaja' is expected to move away from the island later on in the day.
