Death toll of foreigners from Sunday's explosions increases upto 34

News

The death toll of foreigners due to last Sunday's terror attacks has risen to 34, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Accordingly, the deceased have been identified as one from Bangladesh, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain along with two nationals each from China, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

Two victims have been identified as dual citizens of US and UK while two others are dual citizens of Australia and Sri Lanka.

Also among the victims were ten Indian nationals, six UK nationals and three Danish nationals.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry said that yesterday's press release which indicated a French national as one among the victims was a case of mistaken nationality.

The release also noted that 14 foreign nationals are unaccounted for at present, and could be among the unidentified victims at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer’s mortuary.

Further, 16 foreign nationals who were injured in the attacks are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital and private hospitals in Colombo while others have been treated and discharged.

An emergency hotline to assist families of the affected foreign nationals is operational at +94 112323015.
