The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval today for early retirement of at least 560 employees of Sri Lankan Airlines who are expected to retire under the proposed Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) at the cost of Rs 1.46 billion to the national carrier.
A relevant cabinet memorandum was tabled by the Minister of Tourism to implement the early retirement scheme citing the financial crisis that has been faced by the National Carrier.
The Cabinet was informed that a three member Committee headed by the Secretary to the State Ministry of Aviation and Export zones Development also recommended the step.
