The Deduru Oya dam is reaching spill levels as a result of heavy showers experienced over the recent days, irrigations engineers said.
Four out of the eight sluice gates had been opened upto two feet this morning.
Engineers said that areas located downstream of the dam will not face flooding as a resulting of opening sluice gates.
However, they predicted that lowland areas surrounding the dam could experience flooding if rains continue.
