A Deputy Principal of a school who is alleged to have sexually abused an underage school girl, was arrested today (March 13) by the Angunakolapelessa police.
The suspect is a 43-year-old resident of the Angunakolapelessa area.
According to the Police the suspect was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old, Grade 8 student who studied at the same school where he was employed. The young girl is a resident of Sooriyawewa.
Police said the girl's father and the Deputy Prinicipal had a close relationship for some time and it was this acquaintance that enabled the child to be admitted to the school a month ago.
Further, Police revealed that it was the suspect that arranged accommodation for the young girl on the upper floor of a store in Angunakolapelessa. It is reported that as the child was alone for a period of a month, the suspect would visit the girl intermittently. It is alleged that during these visits that the girl was sexually abused.
Following a tip-off received from an anonymous caller to the Angunakolapelessa police station, the Police brought in the girl for questioning and therafter arrested the suspect.
