The Disaster Management Ministry says it has disbursed Rs 12 million to provide meals for some 14,000 persons affected due to the inclement weather.
Disaster Management Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara today (Sept 25) told a news conference that the victims are housed at 42 camps across the country.
A compensation of Rs 2.5 million would be provided to each completely damaged house through the divisional secretariats and the Grama Sevaka offices, he noted.
So far, 30 houses have sustained complete damages, while 412 houses have been partially damaged.
However, the compensation for partially damaged houses would be provided after an assessment depending on the extent of damages, the minister said.
He added that Rs 6.3 million has been distributed among eight districts including Galle, Matara, Kalutara, and Colombo, for any emergency requirement which could arise due to the weather.
