Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Rajitha Senaratne today said President Maithripala Sirisena did not said that the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in India was allegedly involved in a plot to assassinate him.
“What the President was saying at the cabinet briefing was that attempts were being made to implicate the RAW in the alleged plot to assassinate him and damage good relations with India”, Dr Senaratne explained at the weekly cabinet news conference.
He was responding to questions posed by Journalists about the media reports on what had reportedly taken place at the weekly cabinet meeting.
However, a journalist who reported the story said she had checked with as many as four Cabinet Ministers about the remarks before reporting it.
Dr Senaratne said that the President had not made such reference about RAW.
