The Election Commission (EC) has set up a special committee to advise on the conduct of the parliamentary election amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The committee will be comprise of representatives of the EC, members of the Presidential Task Force for the prevention of COVID-19, senior officers of the tri forces and police and health ministry officials including those from the Epidemiology Unit.
The first meeting of the committee is due to be held on Wednesday (29), EC's Media Coordinator Channa P. De Silva stated. The committee is set to meet every two weeks and will discuss on how to proceed given the situation at that time.
Any decision to amend the date on the parliamentary election now scheduled for June 20 will be made based on advise from this committee, Mr De Silva added.
