Eight Indian fishermen were arrested for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters off Delft island, Jaffna this morning, Navy said. Two of their fishing trawlers were also seized.
Accordingly, naval personnel onboard SLNS Ranawickrama, Ranajaya and Edithara II, on patrol at the IMBL off north, made the apprehensions about 13.6 and 10.7 nautical miles northwest of Delft Lighthouse.
The arrested fishermen, trawlers and other fishing gear have been taken to Kareinagar. They will be handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for onward legal action.
