Parliament approved the extension of the State of Emergency by another month by 22 votes to 8 this evening.
The Speaker called for a vote after the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) asked for a division.
The TNA’s eight MPs who were in the chambers were the only ones to vote against the motion. MPs from the UNP and SLFP who were present voted to extend the emergency.
Parliament will reconvene on June 4 at 1.00pm.
