The Ministry of Tourism has appointed an Expert Committee to give input on shifting the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala to Piliyandala.
Ministry Secretary S. Hettiarachchi stated that the committee's report should be submitted in the next few weeks.
While a 70 acre plot of land has been identified, Mr Hettiarachchi stated that the land is not to give the animals the freedom they require.
Nevertheless, the Secretary said the Government was keen on shifting the animals to more spacious surroundings and efforts in this regard were continuing.
