The IT Society of Sri Lanka has warned social media users to remain vigilant of their privacy while using the FaceApp challenge which has taken social media by storm.
The challenge involves users sharing an image of themselves after being aged, using a mobile application called FaceApp for this purpose.
According to the IT Society, the creators of this app themselves, on their Twitter handles, had warned against using the app.
“It remains unclear on how long the creators of this app would store these images in their database,” R.Y. Kuruvitage Mathew, IT Society Chairman said.
He also pointed out the latest findings which have shown that the phone gallery of a user could be accessed by hackers without a user’s permission.
