Fatal accident on Southern Expressway

A fatal accident on the Southern Expressway this morning (24) has left one person dead and six others injured. This incident occurred at about 7.55am today near the Kurundugahahetekma Police Post. 

Police Media Unit said a van traveling from Colombo towards Matara was trying to overtake a lorry when the driver had lost control of the vehicle. The van had struck the lorry, then the railing in the middle of the lane before skidding off the road and overturning.

Seven persons who were inside the van, including the driver, sustained injuries in the incident. Four were admitted to the Elpitiya Hospital while three others, including the van driver were admitted to the Kalutara Nagoda Hospital. The driver later succumbed to his injuries. 

The deceased has been identified as a 45-year-old resident of Boralessawatta, Akuressa. Elpitiya Police are investigating.
