Bus operators found to be operating a passenger service without a valid passenger service permit will soon be liable to a fine of Rs 200,000. This was after Cabinet approved a proposal to increase the minimum fine charged by a Magistrate's Court for such an offence from Rs 10,000 to Rs 200,000.
Accordingly Cabinet approved a proposal made by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva, to present the National Transport Commission (Amendment) Bill to parliament. The Bill has been drafted for providing provisions for the above purpose by amending the Article 40 of the National Transport Commission Act No 37 of 1991,
