The first cabinet meeting for the New Year will be held today (Jan 02). It is to be chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.
After the appointment of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, the new cabinet was sworn-in on Dec 20 of last month. A brief cabinet meeting was held on the same day in order to obtain approval for the vote on account.
At the time the portfolio of MInisters had not been gazetted. Accordingly, this will be the first cabinet meeting since the list of ministers were gazetted.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
