Sri Lanka's first Chennai-bound flight from the Jaffna International Airport took off at 12:45 pm today (Nov 11).
Alliance Air Flight 9I - 102 on board its maiden crew including Northern Governor Suren Raghavan are expected to reach Chennai at around 2:10 pm.
Religious observances were carried out at the airport prior to the flight's departure.
The airline will operate two flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Flight 9I - 102 will depart from Jaffna at 12:45 pm and arrive in Chennai at 2:10 pm. Flight 9I - 101 will leave Chennai at 10:35 am and reach Jaffna by 12 pm.
The Jaffna International Airport (previously known as the Palaly International Airport) which saw only domestic flight operations, was upgraded to facilitate international flights at a cost of Rs 2.2 billion, this year.
