A five-member EU parliamentary group will arrive in the country tomorrow (Nov 13) for election monitoring, EU observation mission spokesman Paul Anderson told Times Online.
They will join a team of 30 short-term observers who will also be deployed tomorrow for monitoring activities during this week’s presidential election.
At present, a team of 30 long-term observers are engaging in monitoring across the country.
EU parliamentarian Marisa Matias is heading the observation mission, and will present a preliminary report soon after the election. The final report is likely to be presented next year.
Meanwhile, a 17-member foreign monitoring team will arrive today and tomorrow, the Election Commission (EC) said. The team will comprise officers from India, Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa, Maldives, Bhutan, Philippines, and Myanmar.
A senior EC official noted that more than 150 foreign observers will be monitoring the election.
