Five HNDA students who were arrested for behaving aggresively during yesterday's protest were ordered to be remanded till March 01 by the Fort Magistrate's Court today (Feb 27).
The protesting students took to the streets to urge the Govt to increase the amount of the Mahapola scholarship to Rs 5000. In addition, Lotus Road in Colombo was closed off owing to the protestors marching on the streets.
Following unsuccessful discussions that the students had with officials at the Presidential Secretariat, it is reported that some protestors became aggressive with the Police. At which point it is claimed that tear gas and water cannons were used to disperse the crowds.
