Five persons were killed and 10 others injured due to a head-on collision between a van and a private bus at Pudukkadu in Kilinochchi this morning. Six of the injured were said to be in critical condition.
The accident had occured on the Jaffna-Kandy A9 road. The van had been traveling from Vavuniya to Jaffna when it collided head-on with the bus while trying to overtake another vehicle.
Palai police said initial investigations had established that the van had been driven at high speed and negligence on the part of the van driver had led to the accident.
Six of the injured are being treated at the Kilinochchi hospital.
