Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, whose turbulent term of office ended on Thursday, left for Singapore a short while ago, reliable sources told the Sunday Times.
They said the under-fire Governor, whose departure has created a political crisis over his successor, left on Emirates 348 to Singapore at around 3 pm (today) from the Bandaranaike International Airport, the sources said. There was no independent confirmation of his departure. Mahendran is a Singapore citizen and often travels to the small city state.
The government has been grappling with an internal crisis over his successor. - Ends -
