A former District Court judge and his personal police security officer were today sentenced to 16 years RI each and fined Rs 20,000 each after they were found guilty for obtaining a bribe to get a judgment in favour of a defendant in a case.
The former Homagama District Judge Sunil Wickrama and his Personal security officer PC Mahananda Kithsiri had obtained a bribe of Rs 300,000 in 2013 from a female who had a case over hotel which the defendant was operating.
The court also ordered that the two convicts pay Rs 300,000 each to the state.
High Court judge Adhithya Patabendi delivering the judge it was admirable that a woman had come forward to lodge a complaint.
The defense counsel said the judge had visited the house of the woman as he was looking for a carpenter, but courts did not accept the position taken.
