Former OIC remanded over Thajudeen murder

Former Crime OIC of the Narahenpita Police Sumith Perera, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday for allegedly concealing evidence in the murder of  Wasim Thajudeen, was remanded in custody today till May 5. 

The suspect was remanded after the CID produced him before the Colombo Additional Magistrate. 

The arrest came after a lengthy investigation conducted by the CID into the death of the former rugby player, who was found burnt to death inside his car on May 17, 2012. 

Though it appeared then as if he had died after his vehicle crashed into a wall and burst into flames, subsequent investigations by the CID established that Thajudeen had been murdered.
