Four individuals were arrested today (Oct 17) for engaging in the drug trade which involved the storage of narcotics at the Dehiwala zoo, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
A 9mm pistol and cash amounting to Rs 2 million had been recovered from the suspects who had been arrested in the Moratuwa and the Katubedda areas.
The suspects included an employee at the Dehiwala zoo.
Special Task Force officers upon questioning the suspects, had learnt that narcotics had been stored at the zoo before being distributed by drug dealers.
Accordingly, 600 grams of heroin had been recovered from the zoo during a search, the police spokesman said.
He added that the drug trade had been manipulated from an inmate at the Welikada prison who has been imprisoned over a narcotic-related offence.
