Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake instructed that free electricity be supplied to camps that are sheltering those affected by the inclement weather, the Ministry said.
Issuing a statement today (Sept 25), the Ministry said that these instructions had been issued to the Ceylon Electricity Board and Lanka Electricity Company Pvt. Ltd.
The Disaster Management Ministry has identified 41 camps including schools and temples which are housing victims.
According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), residents in landslide-prone districts were evacuated while some others were forced to leave their homes due to flooding.
The DMC's latest report indicated that more than 80,000 people have been affected so far.
