A Fuel Operation System will be introduced from January next year to avoid wastage of fuel supplied to state owned buses, the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry said.
Issuing a statement, the ministry noted that drivers would be advised on minimizing the consumption of fuel during their trips.
According to the ministry, the Sri Lanka Transport Board spends around 50 percent of its daily income estimated to be worth between Rs 5 – 6 million to supply fuel to state buses.
Around 5400 state-owned buses operate daily covering routes spanning 102.2 million kilometres and therefore require upto 375,000 litres of diesel, the statement noted.
It added that the consumption of fuel by the buses vary based on the driving patterns of drivers.
