Further hearing of witness statements in the contempt of court case filed against State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake has been fixed for August 28 by the Supreme Court today (Aug 6).
During today's hearing, two journalists from a private media network provided witness before court. Another journalist attached to a private media outlet is expected to provide a witness statement during the next hearing.
Ramanayake was not present in court since he had to sit for his G.C.E Advanced Level examinations. He has been accused of making defamatory remarks against the judiciary at a press conference on August 21 last year.
Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera and R.Sunil Perera, a civil rights activist, had filed a petition against the State Minister at the Supreme Court.
