Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera who was sentenced to one year Rigorous Imprisonment for threatening Sandya Ekneligoda, wife of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda was granted bail today under strict conditions by Homagama Magistrate's Court.
The courts granted bail when an appeal filed by his lawyers was taken up for hearing today. The bail conditions are two sureties worth Rs 500,000 each and prevented from travelling abroad.
On June 14, Gnanasara Thera was sentenced to 1-year’s Rigorous Imprisonment to be served in 6 months, after finding him guilty of threatening Sandya Ekneligoda, wife of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda, at the Homagama Magistrate’s Court premises. The Magistrate also fined the Thera Rs 3,000 and ordered him to pay Rs 50,000 to Mrs Ekneligoda as compensation.
