The accused in the misappropriation case involving Ceylinco PLC's Golden Key Credit Card Company have requested the Attorney General (AG) to end the case on a consensus.
Ceylinco Chairman Lalith Kotelawala and eight directors have been accused of misappropriating Rs 72 million worth funds of depositors in 2009.
During today's Colombo High Court hearing, lawyers appearing for the accused, informed court that they could return these funds to the depositors by setting up a special Fund for this purpose.
They pointed out that a huge share of the funds could be returned through personal assets.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the prosecutor, told court that the AG will require some time to study the request as it had been made recently.
Accordingly, High Court judge Aditya Patabendige ordered that the case be taken up for further hearing on February 19, 2020.
