The appeal filed by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa seeking an interim order on the Special High Court's verdict concerning the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial museum case will be heard by the Appeal Court on March 26.
Notices were also issued by the Appeal Court to the respondents who failed to turn up during today's hearing since they were not given prior notice.
The Special High Court had dismissed preliminary objections filed by the accused and had also rejected a request to appeal the verdict at the Supreme Court.
Accordingly, a petition seeking a writ order to be issued by the Appeal Court in order to overturn the Special High Court's decision to dismiss the preliminary objections filed by the accused was submitted to the Court of Appeal.
The petitioner also requested an interim order to be issued on the Special High Court's jurisdiction to hear the case until a final verdict is issued on the appeal.
The three-member judge bench of Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne, and the Attorney General have been named as reposndents in the appeal petition.
