Disembarking foreigners from passenger ships arriving in Sri Lankan ports has been stopped with immediate effect due to the risk posed by the Coronavirus, Director General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe announced.
Speaking at a press conference today to brief the media on the latest developments on the Coronavirus, Dr Jasinghe said the directive was conveyed to the Chairman of the Ports Authority and the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration yesterday.
However, no foreign passenger vessels have been banned from the country's ports, the Health Services DG stressed. Ships which arrive in Sri Lankan ports will still be provided with necessary services and fuel, though they will be prevented from disembarking any passengers.
