If the government decides to register social media accounts; it will be a clear violation of the right to freedom of expression, the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka warned.
“We express concern over a recent statement by a senior government minister on registering social media accounts. The usage of social media and maintaining social media accounts should not be registered or controlled,” said Rajeev Yasiru Kuruwitage Mathew, Chairman of the Information Technology Society.
He requested government ministers to refrain from making misleading statements.
