The Grama Niladhari Trade Union Collective has decided to launch trade union action today (August 01) claiming that 13 demands put forward to authorities have yet to be taken up.
Chairman of the Collective Sumith Kodikara told media that the first step of the trade union action would be to withdraw from the one day service of issuing NICs from today.
The President of the Association added that they would resort to further trade union action if the authorities continue to disregard their demands.
Mr Kodikara told media that it was expected that more than 14,000 officers would join the trade union action.
