Hambantota Mayor arrested to be produced Magistrate
Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando was arrested by a Special Investigations Unit of the Police Headquarters, local media reported. Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando was arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a suspect in police custody in March, 2014, Police spokesman told local media. Fernando was arrested regarding in an incident in March 2014, where he stormed into the Ambalantota Police Station and attempted to attack and kidnap a suspect under police custody. Eraj Fernando is to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate today, Police Spokesman ASP Gunasekara told local media .
