The Health Services Trade Union Federation temporarily ended protests after Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne promised to take steps to resolve issues.
According to a health Ministry statement a meeting is scheduled to be held with trade union representatives and Health Ministry officials including Secretary, Dr. Wasantha Perera and Director General of Health Services, Anil Jayasinghe on September 27 to further discuss their demands.
One of the main demands of the Federation was that qualified workers that had been taken in on an informal basis such as (daily wage,) substitute, contract or relief basis should be made permanent as per 2019/25 circular, the statement said.
Accordingly the Minister instructed officials to take necessary steps as the Cabinet had already approved the circular. Officials were instructed to expedite the Cabinet paper on paying overtime on Saturdays and to look at Federation’s other demands including easing the Efficiency Bar Examination.
