Husband and wife arrested over heroin racket

Police in Matara yesterday busted a heroin racket carried out by a husband and wife in the guise of selling king coconuts. Police said the duo had been involved in selling heroin from a small lorry they were using on the guise of selling king coconuts. 

Police recovered 1000 milligrams of heroin from the posession of the male suspect while 350 milligrams were found concealed inside the bra of the female suspect. 

According to police, the suspects had confessed under interrogation that they sold heroin to trusted customers on the side while engaged in their king coconut business. 

The suspects, aged 35 and 38 years, are due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court.
