Newly-appointed Eastern Governor Shan Wijeyalal highlighted the importance of impartiality and justice in the East due to the nature of the multi-cultural communities.
The Governor made these remarks after assuming duties at the Eastern Governor's office in Trincomalee. He had served as the Chief Minister of the Southern Province previously.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Wijeyalal had said that it would be easy to serve the people only if he puts aside his political beliefs while holding the post of Governor.
"There were several incidents which put the Eastern Province in the spotlight over the last few weeks. Therefore, it is important to work with extreme precaution," the Governor said.
The post of Eastern Governor fell vacant following the resignation of M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.
