Interpol warrent issued for Udayanga Weeratunga
The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today issued a warrent to arrest Sri Lanka's former Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga. The international warrent for the ex-diplomat's arrest will be enforced through Interpol.
Weeratunga is being investigated by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) with regard to his alleged role in the controversial deal to purchase MIG-27 aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
His whereabouts are currently unknown, though he is believed to be overseas. As such, the FCID had been seeking an Interpol 'Red Notice' for Weeratunga's arrest.
