JVP in a strongly worded letter to President says only he can unravel current state of instability he has caused; Party will not attend meeting

News

The JVP addressing a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena has announced its decision to not to attend today's all-party meeting by citing five reasons.

The JVP listed out five main occasions during which the President's conduct was unacceptable

  1. Appointment of an MP without the majority in the House as Prime Minister on October 26 and the appointment of the Cabinet in a ridiculous manner.
  2. Dissolving Parliament while knowing that the purported government does not have a majority in the House.
  3. Buying of MPs in order to obtain the majority in Parliament.
  4. Dissolving Parliament following the failure to obtain the majoirty even after having offered financial inducements for MPs to crossover.
  5. Delay in acceptance of the no-confidence motion against Mahinda Rajapaksa after having passed it twice in Parliament.

The letter was signed off saying that as the president is the orchestrator of the current instability in the country only he can unravel it and that they have little faith in being able to discuss and come to a solution.
