President of the National Alliance for Lawyers Associations (NALA), Manoj Gamage, has been asked to appear at the Colombo Fort Police station for an inquiry into a complaint made regarding certain statements made by him.
The Attorney at Law is to appear at 9am on August 20, the Association said in a statement.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekera lodged a complaint with the police against Mr. Gamage recently.
The complaint was lodged over an incident where Mr. Gamage had allegedly threatened the SSP at a media conference.
Meanwhile, the Association issuing a statement claimed that it was unacceptable to conduct such an inquiry regarding a statement made at a press conference.
Further, the statement claimed that this would also undermine the fundamental right to free speech and expression as enshrined in the Constitution.
